Angelina Jolie turned 49 (yup!) earlier this week, and her low-key celebrations are a clear indication of where she stands amid her family’s ongoing drama. ICYMI: Most recently, her 18-year-old daughter Shiloh filed paperwork to have her name legally changed from Shiloh Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Jolie. It’s just another way she’s trying to separate herself from her estranged dad, Brad Pitt.

The Eternals actress reportedly prioritized her kids and family time on her Big Day. “Angelina will celebrate her birthday with a quiet day at home with her kids. Zahara is home from college, and she looks forward to everyone spending the day together,” a source told People.RELATED STORYThis On-Sale Tinted SPF Compact Works ‘Magic’ at Smoothing Skin: ‘Liquid Foundation Is a Thing of the Past’
A “quiet” day amid all the noise. We can’t blame her for wanting that. And we certainly can’t blame her kids — Shiloh, Zahara, Vivienne, Knox, Pax, and Maddox — for wanting to distance themselves from their dad who Jolie alleged was abusive toward her and the kids when she filed for divorce in 2016.
Shiloh isn’t the only one to change her name (legally or otherwise). Her big sister Zahara also publicly dropped “Pitt” from her name at a sorority event, and her little sister Vivienne was listed as “Vivienne Jolie” in the playbill for The Outsiders — the Broadway play that she helped her A-list mom produce.

Names aside, Maddox — the oldest — reportedly testified in court against his dad, and Pax went after the Fight Club star on social media last year.

As if all this weren’t enough to make Jolie want to lay low on her birthday, she’s also still finalizing the details of her messy divorce. Last month, as part of the former couple’s battle over their French estate, Pitt’s lawyers resurfaced information from Jolie and Pitt’s custody battle to showcase Jolie’s understanding of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).RELATED STORYThis On-Sale Tinted SPF Compact Works ‘Magic’ at Smoothing Skin: ‘Liquid Foundation Is a Thing of the Past’
Us Weekly, People, Entertainment Tonight, and more obtained documents wherein Tony Webb — Pitt’s current security guard and Jolie’s former security guard — claimed that the actress’ aide called him during the custody battle and tried to get his help dissuading two bodyguards who had worked for Jolie (and signed NDAs) from testifying.Report ad
One bodyguard allegedly said he would break the NDA and testify if subpoenaed.
“When [he] told me this, he also told me that if asked, he would testify about statements he overheard that Ms. Jolie made to the children, encouraging them to avoid spending time with Mr. Pitt during custody visits,” Webb wrote in his statement for the courts.
So … yeah. Doesn’t a quiet night celebrating with the kids sound nice? Happy belated birthday, Jolie. We hope your celebrations this week (and perhaps more this weekend?) were exactly what you wanted.
