Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have once again not been invited to Trooping the Colour — the June parade that celebrates the monarch’s birthday (regardless of when they were actually born) — and we can’t say we’re terribly surprised. It seems like the royal family loves nothing more than to snub the couple (HERE is every time they’ve done it!), and they set a bit of a precedent when they didn’t extend an invite last year.

Prince Harry and Markle did attend Trooping the Colour from 2018-2022 when celebrating the late Queen Elizabeth III, though they did not join the family on the balcony in that final year.RELATED STORYWhy Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Probably Aren’t Sweating the Trooping the Colour Omission
And while “Meghan apologists” might be furious at the decision, we know there’s at least one bright side. Because even if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had been invited to the parade, their kids would not have joined them. In case you haven’t been following along with Prince Harry’s ongoing legal battle, the father of two has been fighting the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures for increased security when his family visits the U.K. Earlier this year, High Court judge Peter Lane upheld the decision to reduce the Sussexes security when they stepped down as senior royals.

Last year, Prince Harry even offered to cover the costs of increased security, but the bid was denied. In a statement to the justice system, he explained why this was so important.
“The U.K. is my home,” he said. “The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States. That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil.”RELATED STORYWhy Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Probably Aren’t Sweating the Trooping the Colour Omission
So Prince Harry might not be waving (or groaning) alongside his nephew Prince Louis from the balcony of Buckingham Palace, but at least that means he can spend more time at his Montecito home with his kids who would have been there without him.
